On the skylines of Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Dar es Salaam, modern municipal buildings are rising. With East Africa’s economic growth and the preparation for major international events and cultural festivals, stadiums, museums, and convention centers are no longer just functional structures – they have become the “calling cards” that showcase a city’s ambition and vitality.   However, when developing such large-scale public buildings, owners and government bodies often face a key challenge: how to achieve unobstructed, large-span spaces while balancing aesthetics and safety? Application of space frames to hangars

图片
To date, space frame structures have been widely used in China, with application scenarios including but not limited to: industrial plants, coal storage structures, hangars, airport terminals, high speed rail stations and large stadiums. 💚💚💚 Hangars require a large span and space sufficient for aircraft parking, but also a certain load-bearing capacity to withstand the loads brought by the equipment during aircraft maintenance. In order to increase the load-bearing capacity, the construction of hangar structures has been accompanied by improvements and innovations to the traditional two-storey space frame structure. For example, the four-bay hangar at Beijing Capital Airport, built in 1996, has a three-storey space frame structure with dimensions of (153+153)m × 90 m. The hangar of China Southern Airlines at Beijing Daxing International Airport, built in 2019, has a W-shaped truss + space frame structure system with a span of 222 m at the opening side of the gate. hangar
